Roses are red........well, not all of them!
Valentine's Day is the day of love. The day where couples spend time together or give each other meaningful gifts is said to be the most romantic day of the year. However, maybe not for everyone....until now! Not everyone has a partner or a Valentine. What about those that have lost their partner or or those that choose to be single and love themselves? Well, Valentine's Day should be special for everyone! At King Luxe Photography, we realize everyone is different and celebrate that fact! You may be in a "different" situation, choose to walk a different path or may have gone through a journey that has led you to being what some people think is out of the norm. You may be feeling alone today, or you may simply choose to love yourself first with celebration! Regardless of your circumstances, having a spouse, partner, or Valentine does not define your ability to love!
The person you and only you can love best is yourself! Love yourself first! We say this because you first must love yourself before you can give love to or receive love from anyone else. Treat yourself, date yourself, and buy yourself photoshoot (to boost your confidence and allow you to see yourself in a new light and how others may actually see you), flowers, that handbag, candy, or even that cologne or those shoes you have been eyeing. Maybe even go out to eat alone so you know that you can be comfortable in your own company. KNOW YOUR WORTH AND ADD TAX because YOU ARE VALUABLE! Love can be both a funny and wonderful thing. Whether you are loving yourself or someone else, it is one of the greatest feelings in the world, but sometimes real love can also hurt. After all, if you truly love someone, even yourself, you will have difficult times and disappointments. And that is normal and ok. To give love, to receive love, to be in love........so many ways to feel this emotion and so many ways one can express it! Have you ever explored the languages of love? Each of us has our own love language and we are all very different in the way we express love. Some are givers, others are caretakers or providers, and some people love quality time or physical touch. All of these are love languages. If you have never explored the languages of love, check them out!
Here is a good reference to the 5 love languages:Back to Valentine's Day....
Did you know that Valentine's Day history is mysterious, confusing and maybe even a bit creepy? This article about Valentine's Day tells a little about how the holiday may have come about:How can love be summed up into one Holiday a year? It can't!
People love in many ways daily and what is better than knowing you are loved on Valentine's Day? Knowing you are loved every day! Each one of us are loved by our creator, our friends, our families, our co-workers (well, sometimes lol), even by people we don't know, and hopefully ourselves! You matter to someone and that is what matters!
We can choose to love ourselves and others every day, all day, regardless of who they are or seem to be. You never know who loves you or when you may just have a secret admirer. So, if you are feeling less than loved on this special day, just know, YOU ARE LOVED!
Who needs gifts on Valentine's Day anyway? The ability to love is a gift in itself! Go out into the world and show some love today! Pay it forward, do some charity work, call a friend, or just love yourself, HARD! Why not take time for some self-care, binge watch your favorite series, or just journal and dream. Do what you love this week whether that is being creative, writing a poem, singing, gardening, collecting something or watching your favorite sport.
As Lucille Ball once said.
“Love yourself first, and everything else falls in line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” ~Lucille Ball

International Pancake Day
Today is international Pancake Day! Liberal, Kansas celebrates this day with the annual Pancake Day race with Olney England. That's right, they run a foot race with a pancake in a skillet! It is an unusual and fun event to watch. We want to wish Liberal, Kansas race participants good luck today.
Not familiar with this event? Check out the International Pancake Day website! There will be breakfast and bagpipes, church services and even a parade! There is even an International Pancake Day museum in Liberal just a couple blocks from our home. You should visit if you happen to be in town. The museum is really neat and has a plethora of Pancake Day history and gifts.
This event (well, this and Dorothy's house......more on that in another post) puts our little town on the map! How do you like your pancakes? From Blueberry, apple and banana to savory and even super sweet like cotton candy and icing, pancakes are one of the most versatile foods ever! Seriously.....these carb laden goodies are cheap, filling and indulgent. Not only can they be enjoyed at breakfast, but are also just as good for lunch, dinner or even a snack! Pancakes are the a household staple (in the United States anyway). My favorites are peanut butter and blueberry pancakes. What are yours? Pancakes are a perfect addition to a savory breakfast of bacon or ham and eggs, and can be enjoyed with not only berries, but nuts and grains as well. Have you ever tried oat or buckwheat pancakes? They are amazing with clover honey or wildflower honey and probably much healthier too. Give them a try sometime. And.....here are some fun ideas for the kids too! You can even get fancy if you like and make your pancakes luxurious with some creme or jam. Have you ever tried puffy or sponge type pancakes? Why not make some pancakes for Valentine's Day tomorrow and teach someone about International Pancake Day over your morning brew? Wishing you a great International Pancake Day. May your day be filled with love, laughter and blessings. Liberal, Kansas, we are cheering you on this year!
Our photographer, Julie King, began her journey in professional photography at the age of 12 while photographing for competition in 4-H. She then moved on to photojournalism while in High School, during which she truly developed a passion for photography and graphics design. Julie soon realized that portraiture was the genre of photography she preferred, as it allowed her to connect on a deeper level with her subjects. Since, she has joined the Professional Photographers Association of Kansas, Professional Photographers Association of America, studied at several educational institutions and conferences to further her skillset and attended Texas School of Professional Photography. Constantly investing in continuing education, Julie plans to start her journey to receive her accreditation through PPA as a certified professional photographer soon.
In her words...."There is just something ineffable about creating a person's portrait. No two people are exactly alike. When you create a portrait you are part of a once-in-a-lifetime and one-of-a-kind experience. No matter how many times you photograph a person, every session will differ. When I am behind my camera and I push the shutter, a memory is created that that person will never have happen again. Photographs are extremely important to me because once that memory is gone or over, the final image is all you have left. but a memory can be re-lived through a photograph forever."When photographing portraits, there is a deeper connection between the artist and their muse, which creates an emotional connection and memory recall. It is like you are, in that instance, capturing the very essence of your subject's soul. Because of this, the photographer you choose to create your memories can have a HUGE impact on not only how you feel about professional portraits or photography, but also how you view your final images. The experience is part of the process and we aim to bring you an experience that is meaningful and unforgettable! There is an undeniable difference between an amateur photographer and a professional portrait artist. This difference comes with experience, educational investment, and many years of connecting with clients who give you their trust. Being trusted to create the most important and special memories and possessions for your clients is a humbling and an honor.
Keeping Fine Arts alive is very important to us because Art allows people to express themselves and be unique. It is a way to feel belonging, passion, love and be seen. Whether you are modeling, playing an instrument, singing, acting, painting, drawing, writing poetry or creating a photograph, Fine Arts are desired and necessary for the soul. "If the Arts die, therefore, so does the soul." - Julie King
We would like to thank all of our clients for trusting us to create their memories and encourage you, if you have never had a professional photography experience, to invest in yourself and contact us to find out how we can create a professional portrait experience suited to you and your needs. You can find more information by viewing our website or contacting us on Facebook, Instagram, by email or phone.
Did you know the Senior Portrait Experience is a longstanding Tradition dating back as far as the 1800's? In the United States, at least, formal high school senior portraits were documented as early as the 1880's, during which time senior portraits were created using a simple black or white backdrop. Similar to modern Senior drape portraits, Senior boys were photographed in tuxedos and senior girls were draped in silk or fur, and wore a traditional pearl necklace.
Although the fashion has evolved over time, having Senior Portraits created has been a very important and necessary part of history as long as photographs have existed. Senior Portraiture is a coming of age tradition that is not only important for parents, but the graduates as well.Senior Portraits give the parents the opportunity to not only show their child how proud they are of their accomplishments by gifting them with a Senior portrait session, but to document achievements and history as well. A time to capture the miraculous transformation from them being an adolescent to an adult. To a parent, a Senior portrait session means being able to freeze the last moments of their child's youth and innocence, and document their first steps toward adulthood and self-growth. Often times these portraits are some of the most important and treasured possessions a parent can have of their child, because they may be the last professional photographs they have of their child until their wedding, college graduation or ever again. To parents, these portraits are heirlooms and become irreplaceable works of art as their children age.
To a High School Senior, Senior portraits can be an exciting experience to look forward to as they work hard toward graduation. It is also a time to document achievements and special occasions in their life. If the right photographer is chosen, having their portrait taken can be a huge boost of confidence and an experience they will never forget. It is their time to shine and show the world who they are as they take their big leap into the unknown world of adulthood.Whether the parents realize it or not, most Seniors hope for or look forward to documenting their "lasts" with a Senior portrait session. This is the one thing they can forever call their own, and the one time in their life they they can completely be themselves. For nobody is exactly the same and a portrait captures the very essence of a person's soul. These will be THEIR portraits because nobody else can be them.
From their last time to go to class, last time to play their favorite sports, last time to sing in choir or play in band, their last drama production, last time to gather with friends or their last time to have the freedom to dress in a fun and carefree way. As all parents know, becoming an adult can be stressful, requires many sacrifices and requires much responsibility. This is your child's last moments to just be free and truly express themselves. That is something worth documenting! So whether you prefer classic and traditional portraits, prefer a fine art look or a more casual sporty look we offer it all. If you would like to document your sports awards, participation in extracurricular activities such as band or choir, have a farm full of animals you would like to include, are in Scholar's bowl, or have a hobby or goal you are working toward, are taking pilot lessons or love to roller skate, have a collection or interest to show off, let us know! You may even want to include your favorite local locations or foods, music and movies, or even if you want to dance under a rainbow, we will make sure your King Luxe Senior experience is one you will want to tell all your friends about! As we all know, as we age we grow wiser and with that knowledge comes reminiscing. Oh how we wish we still looked like we did in high school (showing your children or friends your old Senior photos), recalling the memories of being on a sports or activities team and the comradery and feeling of belonging those activities provided, rehashing style and how it always seems to come back after a decade or two......remember those shoes your wore or style of hair you had when you were in high school? Remember the pet you had that was your best friend, your favorite book or your favorite hobby? Well, Senior Portraits are exactly how you can re-live those exact moments forever!! (I pulled out my Senior photos not long ago to show my husband and for some reason I had an infatuation with teddy bears, Girbaud jeans, big bangs, doc martins and plaid shirts lol).
Memories never matter until that is all we have left. Sometimes as we age, we need those little moments to get us through the rough patches in life or even to just brag to the guys about how buff you were in high school during the playoff game. Not to mention, the potential for much needed bonding time with your children/grandchildren in the future when you show them your/your graduate's high school Senior portraits!
